Several Conservatives came a cropper when they placed their bets on the date of the 2024 general election

Writing in this week’s NLJ, John Gould, senior partner at Russell-Cooke, warns: ‘If the allegations are true they feed the perception that the standards of integrity in parts of our public systems are even lower than people imagine.’  

While lots of people like a punt, nobody likes a cheat and, rightly or wrongly, a perception has arisen that some people close to 10 Downing Street have been heading down the bookies when their first thought should be the good of the country. Integrity matters. Gould offers his take on the election betting scandal.
