Publicly funded family mediations have fallen despite the introduction of compulsory Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs).
Ministry of Justice Court Statistics, released last week, reveal a significant year on year fall – 1,778 publicly funded mediation starts in April to June 2014, compared to 2,706 mediation starts in the same period in 2013.
Private mediations, on the other hand, have nearly doubled since 2011. Jo Edwards, chair of Resolution, said the disparity revealed a two-tier justice system.
