Lord Carlile has replaced Roy Amlot QC as the barrister member of the Queen’s Counsel Selection Panel.

The six members of the independent selection panel include laypersons as well as barristers and solicitors.

Amlot is stepping down after taking part in three QC competitions.

Baroness Elizabeth Butler- Sloss, Ruth Evans, and Christopher Woolley are also standing down from the panel.

A commercial fraud specialist, Lord Carlile was appointed a life peer in 1999, and has been the government’s Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation since 2001. He was head of chambers at 9–12 Bell Yard, until 2007.

Applications for this year’s competition closed this week.
