LNB news: Ukraine conflict—65 new Russian sanctions announced targeting strategic industries, banks & business elites

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has reported that the Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, has announced 65 new Russian sanctions aimed at targeting the key industries supporting Russia’s conflict with Ukraine

Lexis®Library update: The industries sanctioned include Russian Railways, Kronshtadt, a defence company and the main producer of Russian drones and the Wagner Group, the organisation Russian mercenaries reportedly tasked with assassinating President Zelenskyy. The world’s largest diamond producer Alrosa has also been sanctioned and six more banks are targeted, including Alfa Bank whose cofounders include previously sanctioned oligarchs Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven and German Khan. Individuals sanctioned include the billionaire oil tycoon Eugene Shvidler, founder of Tinkoff bank Oleg Tinkov, Herman Gref, the CEO of Russia’s largest bank Sberbank, the Foreign Minister Lavrov’s step daughter Polina Kovaleva and Galina Danilchenko, who is the first individual to be sanctioned for collaboration with Russian forces currently in Ukraine.
