The rule making powers of the Law Society have been formally transferred to the Solicitors Regulation Authority in what its chief executive calls “an important piece of work”. Des Hudson says, “The Law Society has now fully complied with its duties under both the spirit and letter of the Legal Services Act and has acted swiftly in the public interest at a very early stage”. Meanwhile property law specialist Paul Marsh has been voted in as Law Society president, vowing to continue reforms of the body and protect the interests of the profession at the highest level.
