Serious injury team bolstered by high-profile partner hire

Hugh James has appointed Phil Edwards as partner in its serious injury team, reinforcing its national reputation for catastrophic injury work. With three decades of experience, Phil will focus on brain injury, spinal cord injury, limb loss and fatal claims, bringing specialist expertise in inquests and bereavement support.

Previously a partner at Clarke Willmott, Phil has handled some of the UK’s highest-value personal injury cases, including claims exceeding £20m. He is known for his work with both adult and child claimants, and has contributed to European Parliament-presented research on fatal claims. He also lectures widely and supports charities such as Brake, Headway and the Child Brain Injury Trust.

Joint head of serious injury, Cari Sowden-Taylor, said: ‘Phil is one of the country’s leading personal injury litigators… his skill, dedication and determination make him an exceptional advocate.’ She added that he ‘shares our core principles — putting clients at the heart of everything we do.’

Phil Edwards said he was ‘delighted and excited to be joining Hugh James’, praising the firm’s ‘reputation in the serious injury field’ and its commitment to rehabilitation and client care. His appointment marks another milestone in the team’s growth, which now includes 50 specialists across the UK and is recognised by Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
