The Hague 19 Convention has been ratified and will come into force in the UK on 1 July 2025

The convention, which has also been ratified by Ukraine, Uruguay and all EU member states except Denmark, facilitates cross-border recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil or commercial matters between ratifying states.

Law Society president Nick Emmerson said the UK’s accession to Hague 19 was ‘a notable victory for our jurisdiction’ and urged the next government to continue efforts to accede to the Lugano Convention.
