A video artwork, titled Appearance, which highlights the role of female judges, will feature as part of a major art exhibition at Modern Art Oxford (25 March–2 July).

The piece, by artist Carey Young, shows female judges in a range of work settings including the magistrates’ courts, the Court of Appeal, High Court and the Supreme Court.

Lord Burnett, the Lord Chief Justice, said: ‘Appearance demonstrates the power of the judicial image in a context not usually associated with judges.’

Young, the artist, has work in major public collections and has developed several pieces with legal themes including contract, land law and outer space law.
