Around 600 age discrimination claims have been made against British businesses since the new law was introduced last October, according to government figures. Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) surveyed over 50 businesses employing more than 78,000 employees from across a range of sectors, and established that more than one in 10 has already received a claim. Employment tribunal figures show the average compensation awarded under disability discrimination legislation is £20,000, but, BLP says, higher compensation may be likely for age discrimination claims.
