UK ministers have thrashed out a deal which should see the UK opting in to the Rome I Regulation—which clarifies the applicable law in cross-border disputes in Europe. When the European Commission first announced the proposals in 2005, the UK government opted out of the proposals, claiming they would not have been in the interests of UK businesses. However, a recent consultation showed overwhelming support from UK businesses for signing up.
