Former steelworks employees may join mass action

Up to 400 former workers at Ravenscraig steelworks and their families could join a mass action against British Steel relating to polyaromatic hydrocarbons, a substance which can cause cancer and other serious illnesses. The claimants, represented by Watford firm Collins Solicitors, launched their legal action earlier this month, even though Ravenscraig closed 21 years ago. Former workers have suffered skin cancer, lung cancer and breathing complaints, which they claim are due to exposure to toxic substances at work.
