The Justice Committee is launching an inquiry into prison governance. MPs will investigate the role and responsibilities of prison governors, and how the Ministry of Justice and HM Prisons and Probation Service should provide effective oversight of prisons. Bob Neill MP, the Committee’s Chair, said: ‘The findings of our recent inquiries into HMPs in Liverpool and Birmingham show that big questions remain around the effectiveness of the oversight arrangements in place and how our prisons should be run.’ Written evidence is invited via the committee website by 7 May 2019.
