The Department for Transport has launched a Consultation on using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, due to end at 11.59pm on 17 January 2021
The Department proposes broadening the offence to include standalone mode functions as well as interactive communication functions. In other words, it would be an offence to browse through photos or search for music on their phone while driving.
There would be an exemption to allow drivers to make contactless payments at appropriate locations, for example, drive-through food outlets. The consultation is at: bit.ly/31uIj27.
