Legislation update
Specifies the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children signed in the Hague on 19 October 1996 (the Convention) as one of the Community Treaties as defined in the European Communities Act 1972, s 1(2). Specification will enable the government to make use of powers to give the Convention the force of law in the UK.
The Convention supports the protection of children in matters where there is an international element.
