In brief

The former chair of the Health and Safety Commission has been appointed as the head of the Legal Services Commission. Sir Bill Callaghan takes over the role from Sir Michael Bichard on 1 September and will lead the 12 member Commission until 2011. Jack Straw has also announced the appointment of the first nine members of the Legal Services Board.
