News in brief

The 2008 Managing Partners’ Forum Award for Exceptional Achievement has been presented to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP—recognising the law firm’s 35 year-long pro bono partnership with Tower Hamlets Law Centre. Freshfields’ trainees and paralegals have been providing pro bono legal advice at the East End drop-in centre since 1973. Joint senior partner Guy Morton says: “Year after year, trainees have handed on to each other the responsibility of providing advice for the public good at the centre. We estimate that 40% of current partners have volunteered at the centre at some point in their career.”
