The 10th Family, Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) launched this week
The Black Country FDAC will cover the Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley areas. A multi-disciplinary team works with the judge and other professionals to provide treatment and support for parents wishing to turn their lives around.
Mrs Justice Knowles said the courts had ‘to date demonstrated the long-term benefits as more children stay with their parents, 35% compared with 19% in non FDAC proceedings’.
The first court was piloted in London in 2008. The government aims to have 20 FDACs by April 2021.
