Business development on the rise

Law firms are investing in business development managers, prompting salaries to rise by 5.5% to an average of £58,000, according to marketing recruiter EMR.

Some 70% of its marketing hires in legal services have been for business development managers, compared with 57% in accountancy and less than that in other professional services.

Charles Green, EMR managing consultant, said: “Increased merger activity across all professional services organisations and the onset of the Legal Services Act in October will create an unprecedented need for brand differentiation and increased client awareness.”
