Blockchain technologies under review

Cryptoassets and smart contracts are the subject of a consultation launched last week by the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce, chaired by Sir Geoffrey Vos, chancellor of the High Court. It seeks views on perceived legal uncertainties about their status. Responses will help inform an authoritative legal statement designed to increase investor confidence. Vos said: ‘Mainstream investors still need to be convinced that their legal rights can be protected when they trade in cryptoassets and enter into smart contracts.’ The ‘Cryptoassets, DLT and smart contracts’ consultation, on the Law Society website, closes on 21 June.
